Bradford Law Centre provides free, independent, specialist legal advice for people who generally cannot access or afford other legal help.
Bradford Law Centre was formed in 1981 to provide free legal advice to the people of the Bradford District of West Yorkshire, and to campaign on important social policy issues, and influence law policy and practice in order to combat social exclusion.
Bradford Law Centre is a charity and a company limited by guarantee. It is run by a Management Committee or Board of Directors/Trustees. These are local residents - individuals or representatives of local community organizations – who have responsibility for managing the charity, providing strategic direction and ensuring that the organization complies with all appropriate charity, employment and legal advice service requirements. They also employ the staff who work on behalf of Bradford Law Centre.
Every year the Management Committee call an Annual General Meeting to which members are invited. The Management Committee are accountable to the members of Bradford Law Centre. Members are local residents – individuals or community organizations – who support Bradford Law Centre and are committed to its aims and objective. The Annual General Meeting is an opportunity for the members to find out more about what Bradford Law Centre has achieved over the previous year and to make nominations to the Management Committee, a third of whom are required to stand down each year.
